Fundraising for our rivers

Spreading awareness of river pollution as part of sustainability week and Cop27

Today we were fundraising for Together, for Rivers | The Rivers Trust with our volunteer – Lecturer Luke – dressed up, enduring wet sponges and buckets of water being thrown at him.

We had many participants and donations!

River pollution continuously causes declines in freshwater species and disrupts migratory fish. Raw sewage damages fragile freshwater ecosystems, causing algal blooms from the nitrogen and phosphorous sewage contains. It also affects public health, causing many people who swim in these rivers to become sick.

‘Untreated effluent, including human waste’…’was released into waterways for more than three million hours last year.’

‘These overflows can contain anything that goes down the drain, from human waste to household chemicals and plastics.’

Raw sewage in our rivers | The Rivers Trust campaign for cleaner rivers in England and Wales and identify areas where sewage disposal is taking place. If you are interested in taking action for healthier, clean rivers, you can join this campaign or make a donation on their website.
