Sustainable Business – Rapanui

Rapanui

“Our lifelong mission is to make clothing sustainable.”

Rapanui is a sustainable, UK-based (Isle of Wight) clothing store. Their products are made from natural materials, using renewable energy, and everything made is designed from the start to be sent back when it is worn out. They make new products from the materials recovered, and instead of making waste, they make new products from it. It’s a circular supply chain included in their “The future, remade” collection.

Store Policies:

  • Organic farming
  • Reducing waste via processing – Cotton is separated into useful fibres to be spun, waste seeds as cow feed, vegetable oil. Drinkable wastewater through dyeing (recirculated, cleaned, filtered).
  • Factory plant is powered by renewable energySA8000 Certified (Social Accountability audit). GOTS certified. Renewable Energy power. Teemill UK(the producer) owns a solar farm and power manufacturing operations with renewables. In India, the factory owns two wind farms and a 150kw PV array.
  • Real-time printing – Lower impact inks, software, machinery and automation technologies. Products are only made once ordered. Certified organic cotton. Open access technology.
  • Recyclable and recycled packaging – Use a rip and splash-proof mailer bag made out of paper. Stickers are made from recycled materials. Plastic-free packaging.
  • Circular Economy – Take waste material from clothing and create new products. Teemill (the supplier) makes new products from the material they recover, and the cycle itself is renewable.
